6.13. Generator brushes

Removal
Removal of a forward cover of the DELCO-REMY generator

| PERFORMANCE ORDER |
| 1. Remove the generator. |
| 2. Using a chertilka, note the mutual provision of forward and back covers of the generator. |
| 3. Unscrew three coupling bolts and remove a forward cover and a rotor from a back cover (see rice. Removal of a forward cover of the DELCO-REMY generator). |
| 4. Check a condition of contact rings of the generator and, if necessary, smooth out them a small emery paper (see rice. An arrangement of contact rings of a rotor on the DELCO-REMY generator). |
| 5. Unscrew three nuts, the fixing stator winding wires to the rectifier block, and remove the stator (see rice. DELCO-REMY generator). |
| 6. Unscrew the screw and remove the block of rectifiers. |
| 7. Unscrew two screws and remove tension brush holder/regulator from a back cover. Note an arrangement of the isolating washers under heads of screws. |
| 8. Check smoothness of movement of brushes in guides and measure dyne of brushes. |
| 9. For replacement of brushes unsolder contacts of old brushes from the brush holder and on their place solder new. |
| 10. Check smoothness of movement of brushes in guides. |

Installation
Extraction of a drill for release of brushes of the DELCO-REMY generator
| PERFORMANCE ORDER |
| 1. Before installation of brush holders record brushes in the wrung-out situation, using a steel wire or a drill. |
| 2. Install brush holders so that the wire or a drill came out through an opening in a back cover of the generator. Fix the brush holder by screws. |
| 3. Install the vypryamitelny block and a winding of the stator in a back cover and fix by nuts and the screw. |
| 4. Establish a rotor in a back cover of the generator, then, according to earlier put tags establish a forward cover. Screw in three coupling bolts. |
| 5. Take a wire or a drill from an opening in a back cover, at the same time brushes will fall by contact rings of a rotor (see rice. Extraction of a drill for release of brushes of the DELCO-REMY generator). |
| 6. Install the generator. |
