3.1.22. Removal and installation of a head of the block of cylinders on the removed engine
Prevention
You make removal of a head of the block of cylinders on the cold engine. At installation it is necessary to use new bolts of fastening and new laying of a head of the block of cylinders. At ustan ке cases of the camshaft it is necessary to use sealant. The specified moments of tightening can be applied only to later bolts. When using bolts of early types specify the tightening moments at the dealer of Opel.
Removal
The head of the block of cylinders can be removed together with collectors or before removal of a head of the block of cylinders it is possible to disconnect from it collectors.
| PERFORMANCE ORDER |
| 1. Take off a gear belt and a pulley of the camshaft. |
| 2. Unscrew two bolts fixing a back casing of a gear belt to the camshaft case. |
| 3. Mark and remove high-voltage wires from candles and the coil of ignition. Uncover the distributor of ignition and, in the presence, disconnect the electric socket from the distributor. |
| 4. Remove a hose of ventilation of a case from a branch pipe on the camshaft case. Unscrew a bolt, the fixing arm of fastening of a pipe of ventilation of a case to an end face of a head of the block of cylinders. |
| 5. Check that all hoses, pipes and wires are disconnected from a head of the block of cylinders. |
| 6. Unscrew bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders, working on a spiral outside inside, unscrewing bolts on a half of a turn for each pass before full unscrewing of bolts (see rice. | 7. Remove the camshaft case from a head of the block of cylinders. |
| 8. Remove yokes, blocks of axial pressure and hydraulic pushers and place them in the corresponding container filled with oil so that at installation they became everyone on the place. |
| 9. Remove a head of the block of cylinders. |
| 10. Remove laying of a head of the block of cylinders. |

Preparation for installation
| PERFORMANCE ORDER |
| 1. The interfaced surfaces of a head and the block of cylinders have to be absolutely pure. For their cleaning use a firm plastic or wooden scraper. When cleaning be careful as it is very easy to damage aluminum alloy. Check that the deposit did not get to oil and water canals. It is especially important for the lubrication system as the deposit can block supply of oil to engine components. If necessary clear channels. |
| 2. Check the interfaced surfaces of a head and the block of cylinders for existence of notches, deep scratches and other damages. If defects small, they can be removed with machining. But at major defects of a detail are subject to replacement. |
| 3. Using a metal ruler and the probe, check planeness of the interfaced surfaces. |
| 4. Clear openings under bolts in the block. Screwing up of a bolt in the opening filled with oil can break off the block because of hydraulic pressure. |
| 5. Replace bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders irrespective of their state. |

Installation
| PERFORMANCE ORDER |
| 1. Check that the piston of the first cylinder is in the top dead point. Check that two directing pins are installed in the block of cylinders. |
| 2. Establish new laying of a head of the block of cylinders so that marking of TOP/OBEN was directed up. |
| 3. Establish a head of the block of cylinders on the directing pins of the block of cylinders. |
| 4. Establish on a head of the block of cylinders hydraulic pushers of valves, blocks of axial pressure and a yoke on the same places where they were before removal. Before installation oil nests of hydraulic pushers engine. At installation of new chesky pushers of a gidravla place them in a container with engine oil and manually squeeze several times for filling with their oil. Grease the interfaced surfaces of hydraulic pushers, blocks of axial pressure and yokes with lubricant on the basis of a molybdenum disulfide. |
| 5. Temporarily establish a pulley of a bent shaft and check that adjusting tags of pulleys are combined with indexes.

| 6. Apply a thin film of Opel No. 994714 sealant on the interfaced surfaces of a head of the block of cylinders and the case of the camshaft, then install the camshaft case. |
| 7. Establish new bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders with washers and screw in them by hand. |
| 8. Gradually and consistently in four stages tighten bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders on a spiral from within outside. |
| 9. Further installation is made in the sequence, the return to removal taking into account the next moments. |
| 10. Check correctness of installation of high-voltage wires for spark plugs. |
| 11. Establish a pulley of the camshaft and a gear belt and adjust a tension of a gear belt. |
| 12. Establish a collector on a head of the block of cylinders, at the same time use new laying of a collector. |
