Coupling

Flywheel design

1 – the flat flywheel which was established on early models;
2 – the bowl-shaped flywheel which was established on later models

Coupling is intended for short-term separation of the engine and transmission at gear shifting or braking and their smooth connection at start-off of the car from the place, and also for protection of details of transmission from dynamic loadings.

Coupling consists of a clutch plate, the leading part of coupling with a press disk and the coupling switching off mechanism.

The clutch plate is established between a flywheel and a press clutch plate and moves on vents of a main shaft of the transmission.

To disconnect the engine from the transmission, it is necessary to take away a release disk from a clutch plate. It is reached by use of the hummock drive. The fork of switching off of coupling moves the release bearing which influences a spring of a release disk and takes away press a disk from a clutch plate.

Such design of coupling allows to replace a clutch plate, the release bearing and a sealing ring of the directing plug without removal of the engine or the transmission from the car.

Since 1992 on models 1,8 and 2,0 of l began to establish a bowl-shaped flywheel (see rice. Flywheel design). At the same time the torque is transferred more smoothly and vibration of transmission decreases. However for replacement of a clutch plate it is necessary to remove the transmission.
